Conceptual Design of Mobile Medical Tactical Operations Center (2005)

Organization: Macroergonomics and Group Decision Systems Lab, Virginia Tech
Duration: 3 months

Introduction:
Our team worked on the conceptualization phase of a research project to design a mobile, medical tactical operations center for military (i.e. battlefield) or civilian (i.e. natural or unnatural disasters) use. The TOC is a command, dispatch, and surgical center with rescue personnel dispersed upon arrival at the remote scene.

Work responsibilities:
Our team worked on the initial phase of project to determine the following aspects of design

  • Conducted interviews and administered surveys with the client side officials and rescue-operation experts
  • Analyzed data to determine focal roles, interacting roles and crew make-up
  • Created charts for the detailed individual and team tasks for the crew
  • Training requirements for the crew
  • Function allocation charts
